Abu Bakar heads new KGS management committee

KUCHING: Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) entered another new chapter in its history when State Secretary Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki became the new club president under the amendment of the club constituti­on.

He took over from Datuk Petinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is now the club patron.

Under Article 7.1.1 of the amended constituti­on, the management committee is now headed by the State Secretary, the post of vice president is deleted while the deputy president, club captain, secretary, treasurer and nine committee members are elected.

“I would like to thank KGS for the trust in me and the new management committee and together we will strive to make this club as a premier and prestigiou­s club.

“Thank you to all those who have turned up today to attend this AGM and I hope all members will continue to give their full support to the new management committee and the KGS staff,” he added.

The 31st KGS Annual General Meeting saw the post of the club captain being closely contested by Ting Kee Shuen and Anthony Tan Hong Chiang.

Ting was elected as the new captain after he received 236 votes against Tan’s 229.

The new deputy president is Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahman who polled 246 votes while Lee Kui Thian received 225.

Bob Chiew Pok Vun retained his post as the secretary with 274 votes, defeating Bernard Lee Meng Hock by 81 votes.

James Enjeng was elected as the treasurer as he was the only candidate.

Meanwhile, Liew Nam Boon was re-elected as one of the nine committee members while the eight other members are Zuraimy Kushaili, Talhah @ Talha Affendi, Wilfred Mujah Aton, Sim Hui Hong, Marvin Chia Vui, Eric Lee Chun Chey, Roland Ling Koh Wen and Sulaiman Aini.

The election returning officer was Dato Muhammad Yakop Kari while the election board members were Dato Patrick Liew Chin Joon and John Ko Wai Seng.

Over 500 members attended the AGM while 447 cast their votes in the election of the management committee for the term 2022-2023.

Also present was former deputy president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
