PPG Revision Lab gathers input, feedback for PCDS

-

The Telecommunication Process, Procedure and Guideline in Sarawak (PPG) Revision Lab aimed to foster conducive and protective environment as well as to cater for the needs of the industry and the people’s wellbeing, said Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) General Manager Dr. Zaidi Razak.

“This lab is crucial for all so that we can have a brainstorming and idea-sharing session in order to find the best way to provide better service delivery to the people,” he said in his address at the opening ceremony of the two-day PPG Revision Lab held at a hotel here on Thursday.

The lab provided the opportunity for all participants to come up with concrete, constructive recommendations to assist the state government in implementing policies and transformation initiatives, as well as gearing towards the success of Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) in order to achieve a developed status by 2030.

It was the result of a recent visit made by some SMA officers to various states in Peninsular Malaysia to gather information regarding their respective PPGs and the best practices that may be incorporated, he said.

Meanwhile, the PPG Revision Lab organising chairman Steward Sayong, who is also SMA’s Head of Licensing, Inspectorate and Enforcement Unit, pointed out that the lab is crucial as it provides participants the opportunity to identify existing processes and procedures that may be deregulated in order to move towards a culture of service delivery excellence.

“Our objective is to spell out SMA’s primary role in leading the state to achieve a developed status by 2030, through PCDS 2030 and the Digital Economy Blueprint. In this way, what we need the most is to attract more investors to Sarawak,” he said.

“The PPG which came to force on June 9, 2020 is the primary reference that sets forth the entire prerequisites governing the development of telecommunication infrastructure in the State.

“This is line with the National Policy on Good Regulatory Practices (NGRP), of which regulatory impact assessment and reformation have to be executed periodically to ensure that the provisions in the PPG not only remain relevant but are also steered towards excellence in service delivery, social development, economic empowerment and environmental sustainability,” he said.
