Sibujaya Water Fest scaled back in bid to use water responsibly

-

SIBU: The organisers of Sibujaya Water Fest 2022 will scale back the event in a bid to use water more responsibly, said Amcorp Properties chief operating officer Azlan Baqee Abdullah.

He said this is also to stand in solidarity with residents who have been affected by low water pressure issues and they would channel water to them.

“Of the five water trucks booked to bring water to the festival, four will be despatched to help residents at the affordable walk-up flats while only one will be used at the festival.

“The two-day festival has also been cut down to only half a day,” Azlan said in a press statement.

He added they were standing in unity with the people and leaders who have voiced concerns over the low water pressure affecting Sibu’s eastern bank.

“Amcorp is grateful to Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Local Government and Housing Michael Tiang and Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai for championing this issue on the people’s behalf,” he said.

The festival, which was held in 2018 and 2019, had to take a backseat during the pandemic and was planned for a September comeback after earlier news reports indicated the low water pressure issues would be resolved by July this year.

Azlan said water authorities and other local authorities had been very supportive of the event

While he acknowledged the sudden scaling down of the festival would be disappointing to some stakeholders and festival-goers, he deemed it a necessary move.

“Any disappointment is regretted but we have to be a responsible corporate citizen. Let us instead strive towards an even bigger and better Sibujaya Carnival next year,” he said.

Azlan acknowledged the weather had been gloomy over the last week but it had not dampened the cheer brought to Sibujaya residents or neighbouring areas.

“Rain or shine the show goes on. We expect a major turnout at the maiden Sibujaya Mega Concert and Fireworks Show. All of us are looking forward to welcoming you to this extravaganza,” he said.
