Yii: RTM needs to improve programme to suit all ages

MIRI: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) needs to improve its programme to meet demand and suit all ages, says Miri City Council mayor Adam Yii.

With today’s technological advances, he said this would ensure RTM is able to compete with social media in disseminating information to the people.

“RTM plays an important role in helping the government to disseminate information on its development agenda to the people. Being a strategic communication medium that serves as the voice of the government through its programme, RTM has successfully performed its functions and is still relevant today with the rapidly developing broadcasting technology,” he said in his address at RTM Miri 47th anniversary at the station premises yesterday.

Yii’s text of speech was read by Councillor Vincent Huang.

The Pujut assemblyman also acknowledged the important role of the media in conveying the government’s development agenda.

RTM, he added, has also produced many new talents in this state and country; with artistes having been born as a result of RTM programme.

“I thus support RTM’s efforts in coming up with programme to unearth new talents. Hopefully something like this will continue.”

RTM Miri station manager Lydia Paya Rinyud, MIRIfm Social Club chairman Muhamad Irfan Sanif who is also RTM’s broadcasting engineer, and RTM Miri programme unit head Simon Suti were also present at the function.
