Landslide poses grave danger to road users of Jln Kesa, Jln Ulu Sungai Rusa

-

SARIKEI: Landslide has narrowed a section of Jalan Kesa and Jalan Ulu Sungai Rusa posing grave danger to road users, says Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarikei branch chief Yee Chin Kui.

During his visit to the area recently, he said he was told by the residents that the landslide at KM2, Jalan Kesa/Ulu Sungai Rusa occurred a few months ago, and had not been repaired.

“I was informed by local residents that initially several government officers inspected the road stretch and put up fence to ensure safety of road users.

“Now that the fence had disappeared and as the road is unlit, road users are exposed to great danger, especially at night,” he said.

In view of the current wet season, he said the local residents were worried that the entire section would collapse.

If it does, some 500 residents of eight longhouses in the area would be cut off from Sarikei, he said, adding that Rumah Empenie at Jalan Kim San was also affected by landslide a few years ago.

He sympathised with the residents of Rumah Empenie who claimed that their appeal for assistance from various government agencies seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.

“According to the headman, Empenie, the corridor of their longhouse experienced serious landslide in Sept 2013.

“I have lodged a police report for the record and also sought help from various government departments but they have not responded,” Yee said.

Nevertheless, the residents are thankful to a team from Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department who visited them in February and helped to bring their plight to the attention of the relevant authorities, Yee added.
