Hanifah urges local community to join APM

-

SIBU: Caretaker Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib has urged the local community to join the Civil Defence Emergency Response Team for emergency preparedness.

Speaking at the launching of the Civil Defence Force (APM) team in Dalat district here yesterday, Hanifah said having knowledge of the right emergency response is crucial as it can save lives and prevent casualties.

“By joining this team, the local community will not only leverage their knowledge in firefighting or dealing with floods, but also on other broader aspects of immediate response during emergencies,” she said.

APM Sarawak director Abdul Rahim Wahab and Dalat police chief DSP Saga Chunggat were also present at the event.

APM Sarawak is currently recruiting a total of 100 members for the Dalat district APM team, and another 30 members for the Oya District APM team from the members of the community.

These APM-trained members will be the first to respond in emergencies of natural disasters, as it would take time for APM personnel to reach a particular area.
