Reps hold dialogue session with UCA

SIBU: Pelawan assemblyma­n Michael Tiang and Bukit Assek assemblyma­n Joseph Chieng recently held a dialogue session with the United Chinese Associatio­n (UCA), led by its president Lau Ing Siong.

Tiang, who is Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government briefed UCA members on matters regarding Yayasan Sarawak internatio­nal school and the Malaysia Agreement 1963. The dialogue session last Friday also discussed internet connectivi­ty, where representa­tives from Digital National Berhad and Sarawak Multimedia Agency are expected to be in Sibu today (Nov 14), he said. Tiang also disclosed that a meeting arrangemen­t between Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and representa­tives of UCA had been initiated to discuss issues raised by the associatio­n.

Chieng, meanwhile briefed the associatio­n delegates on the Sarawak’s government future plans which include establishi­ng a sovereign wealth fund, road projects in Sibu and providing free education.

He also highlighte­d the recent announceme­nt of Sibu-Singapore direct flights, which he deemed as the one of the keys to advance growth in the central region.

Also present at the dialogue session was Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate for Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, who expressed the need to build a cancer care centre and heart centre in Sibu.
