Free school bus programme for B40 extended — Lee

-

MIRI: Yayasan Sarawak will extend its free school bus programme for students from low-income families, said Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

“The programme will be extended in view of the needs for the services, while the repayment process to school bus operators will be discussed later, so that a proper and more diligent payment system can be made,” he said at the Miri City School Buses Association’s gathering here yesterday.

The announcement was received with relief by the association as it would help school bus operators sustain their businesses, while at the same time alleviate the burden of the B40 families.

Launched in July 2020,

Yayasan Sarawak’s free school bus programme was first mooted by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present were the association’s secretary Disa Lawai who represented president Penghulu Samad Alip, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate for Miri constituency Cr Jeffrey Phang.
