Tzu Chi Kuching sets up new recycling drop-off points

KUCHING: Tzu Chi Foundation Kuching has set up new recycling drop-off points across the city to be er serve the local community, bringing the total to 21 locations.

According to a statement from the foundation, the locations serve as a temporary base for the volunteers to collect the recyclable­s on the third Sunday every month from 8am to 10.30am.

“As it is time for year-end cleaning, the foundation encourages the public to send their recyclable­s to the drop-off points,” it said.

However, the foundation said there will be a break in January next year in preparatio­n for the Lunar New Year.

The drop-off points are at Taman River View (near Bintawa laksa); Sungai Apong basketball court; Taman Kwong Ming/Three Hills Park shop lot (same row as Foh Kee Supermarke­t); main entrance of Kenyalang Traffic Garden; Jing-si Books and Cafe at Padungan; Sungai Maong community hall; the walkway of Ninso supermarke­t at Matang Jaya (Lee Ling commercial centre), Tabuan Jaya neighbourh­ood park (opposite Supersave outlet); and Lorong 1C of Tabuan Heights.

The public are also able to drop off their recyclable­s at the Chinese arch of Friendship Park (in front of the CHAGEE drinks outlet); Phoning Gardens community hall (behind Lao Bai Xing Kopitiam); Pinang Bistro at Unigarden, Saramahan (opposite Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and next to RHB Bank); Siburan community hall; First Pharmacy at RH Park at; basketball court at SJK Chung Hua Sungai Lubak; and the SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 ½ bus stop.

There are also drop-off points set up at The Glen Apartment of Arang Road; Public Clinic at Jalan Dogan, Batu Kawa; Hui Sing commercial centre (same row as Wan Jia Department­al Store); Alias Motors at Desa Wira; and Harvest Establishm­ent Sdn Bhd in Bau (opposite Petronas).

A QR Code for the locations is available and the foundation said recyclable­s accepted include polyethyle­ne terephthal­ate (PET) bo les, various plastics products, papers, cardboard, metals, electronic­s and clothes.

The public are encouraged to segregate the recyclable­s by category and have them cleaned before dropping off.

“By segregatin­g and cleaning the recyclable­s, it will make the drop-off easier and it reduces the post-handling process,” said the statement.
