SMK Tabuan Jaya’s Ryan makes ATF U14 main draw

KUCHING: Only four matches were played in the qualifying competition for the Sarawak 15th ATF 14 & Under Series tennis championship at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Tennis Centre along Jalan Crookshank yesterday.

Phay Kai Chuen of Singapore qualified for Tuesday’s boy’s main draw afte he defeated Malaysia’s Louis Tan Shao Thoong in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Joining him in the main draw were compatriots Simon Tremolieres and Oliver James Tan Jun Long who beat Caden Fangiano also of Dingapore 6-0, 6-1 and Malaysia’s Noah Tidan Hardin 6-1, 6-2.

South Korean Seung Hoon Shin also had an easy passage to the main draw when Joseph Ayie Jovi retired in the second set after Seung had led 6-0, 3-1.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Sports School SMK Tabuan Jaya (SMKTJ) tennis development programme trainee Ryan Radcliffe Scott Mervin was the only Malaysian to advance to the main draw after receiving byes in the first round and final qualifying round.

Also making their appearance in Tuesday’s boy’s main draw are Singaporeans Ethan Chan Jun Hui and Ethan Chiang Xing Jie and South Korea’s Kim Ho who all also received byes.

There were no qualifying matches for the girl’s competition.
