Tiong says grooming young leaders to take over

-

BINTULU: Bintulu incumbent Dato Sri Tiong King Sing says the young leaders will one day take over his place here as their representative.

“You don’t worry, actually I have already started training the younger people to take over from me when the time is right,” said Tiong in a Facebook Live session on Sunday evening.

He was responding to a viewer who asked him to let the younger generation take over as their new MP.

The live session, which lasted for almost an hour, saw Tiong answering some questions posed at him in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin.

When campaigning in Kampung Jepak on Sunday, he was told that the villagers did not welcome people from the opposition camp to their village.

Tiong said the opposition, without the people’s knowledge, silently erected their party flags in the village.

“They ask me, ‘how’? I said this is your village and all decisions are for you to decide. I cannot decide on your behalf,” he said.

He was also asked about the possibility of helping voters from outside Sarawak to come back to vote on Nov 19.

“It is not that I am scared that they will the opposition, but I cannot give money for them to come back to vote. It is against the law.

“The opposition would say that is corruption. We can help people who are financially affected by the Covid-19.” People also asked him why he was not campaigning in his constituency, especially in the town areas. Tiong said as a party president, his campaign schedule had to include other areas in the state.

“I have to go to other areas to help our party candidates to campaign,” he said.

On the homeless issue in Bintulu, Tiong said everybody including the police and Welfare Department must work closely together to solve the ma er.

“I have told the Welfare Department to act swi ly, take these people away because many of them are of unsound mind. They would run away when they see the police.”
