‘ICQ Tebedu set to have new complex following approval of federal funding’

SERIAN: The Immigratio­n, Customs and Quarantine Office (ICQ) in Tebedu will have a new complex meant to enhance its services towards be er facilitati­ng the border crossing between Sarawak and Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.

In stating this, Serian incumbent Datuk Seri Richard Riot dislcosed that the federal government had approved RM100 million for this purpose, and that Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg would also approve another RM100 million as a matching grant.

In addition, Riot also highlighte­d the need to further develop the Tebedu Inland Port so that it could accommodat­e more activities in the future.

“Once the Tebedu Inland Port is properly developed, only then could it benefit the people of Serian,” he said when met after the launch of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women election machinery at Kampung Pichin near here last Sunday.

Riot is the GPS candidate for Serian in the 15th general election (GE15) and is seeking his eighth term.

He is a former federal deputy minister under the portfolios of foreign affairs, and also human resources.

At present, he is Special Envoy of the Prime Minister to East Asia.

Riot, who first became Serian MP in 1990, said with all these experience­s, he was confident of bringing Serian to greater heights.

“I am still very fit and ready to continue serving the constituen­ts. Age is just a number,” he said.

Comparing himself to the country’s fourth and seventh prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Riot said he is ‘younger (than Tun Mahathir)’.

“I still play badminton,” said Riot.
