Good governance PH’s basis and foundation if it forms govt

-

KUCHING: Good governance is the basis and foundation of Pakatan Harapan (PH) if it forms the federal government a er the 15th General Election on Nov 19, says DAP Bandar Kuching candidate Dr Kelvin Yii.

“Good governance is the foundation and fundamentals of what we believe in and what we will do,” he said during a political talk at Tabuan Jaya on Sunday night.

Dr Yii admi ed that PH might not be the perfect federal government when it was in power for 22 months, but it was still the only government that genuinely championed anticorruption and good governance agenda.

Providing an example, he said all financial allocation he received as an MP had fully been channelled to the public through allocations to non-government organisations, associations and purchasing equipment for health clinics and schools.

He also chided Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for their appeals to voters to give them a strong mandate to form a stable government.

“GPS has always mentioned they want to form a stable government but what is the point of a stable but a useless and incompetent government?” he said.

He also mentioned the failure of the present federal government to contain inflation and resolving the economic challenges faced by the people.

Dr Yii also said he believed in youth power shaping the country’s future.

“In 2018, the people of Bandar Kuching gave me the opportunity to be their MP. I am in politics for one reason only – to rebuild our country. I have witnessed racism, corruption and discrimination that have destroyed Malaysia,” he said.

He said research had shown DAP has a high chance of retaining Bandar Kuching and Stampin seats if the voter turnout on Nov 19 exceeds 65 per cent.

DAP Sarawak chairman and Stampin candidate Chong Chieng Jen, meanwhile, said PH would have a fair chance of forming the federal government with a simple majority a er the election.

He added that PH chairman and prime ministerial candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during his stop in Kuching on Saturday, had indicated that his federal government would implement the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Our proposal on the devolution of power on education and healthcare ma ers particularly is premised on the principle of good governance. Although the power is devolved to the state, the state government must administer the power with good governance and transparency,” said Chong at the event.
