The footage was edited to twist what Lo had said when he was being interviewed. It was edited in such a malicious way that it could create unhappiness and misunderstanding among the people, rallying them up against Lo.

KUCHING: The Batu Kitang branch of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has lodged a police report against individuals from an opposition party claimed to have slandered SUPP candidate for Stampin, Lo Khere Chiang, with intention of turning the public against him.

In confirming this, SUPP Batu Kitang publicity secretary Tan Soon Huat said on Nov 14 this year, at around 10am, he received a video clip that he later identified as deriving from a YouTube post made on Oct 6, 2021.

“The footage was edited to twist what Lo had said when he was being interviewed. It was edited in such a malicious way that it could create unhappiness and misunderstanding among the people, rallying them up against Lo.

“The video, which was in Mandarin, depicted Lo as saying that he only embarrassed Sarawakians by saying that Sarawakians could afford to eat ‘Empurau’ (a highly-prized and expensive freshwater fish), even if they’re poor,” said Tan, who lodged the report at Sungai Maong police station here yesterday.

He claimed that the edited video clip was meant to go viral. “This is purely an evil method to discredit and slander Lo amidst the current election campaign

“I hope that everyone would uphold and practise fair play in this election, instead of resorting to such malicious means,” said Tan.
