Ting: Vote for Phang to revive ‘Miri 3 + 1 team’

- Campaign Period

MIRI: Miri will have a ‘3 + 1’ team again if the voters here give Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Jeffery Phang a chance to become their MP.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary general Datuk Sebastian Ting is confident of Phang’s capability in representing Miri in parliament to voice the development need of Miri.

The 3+1 team will comprise three SUPP assemblymen of Piasau (Ting), Pujut (Adam Yii) and Senadin (Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin), and Phang, if he wins the parliamentary seat.

The last time Miri had a 3+1 team was when Piasau assemblyman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Pujut assemblyman Andy Chia and MP Tan Sri Peter Chin were on board.

The team was known as Miri Development Team until Miri was elevated into a city on May 20, 2005.

However, in the 10th state election in 2011, Piasau and Pujut seats fell to Democratic Action Party (DAP). Its parliamentary seat also fell into the hands of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in 2013 and was retained by the opposition in 2018.

SUPP won back Piasau seat in the 11th state election in 2016 and also managed to wrest Pujut seat in the 12th state election in 2021.

“With three state representatives and Phang winning, Miri’s 3+1 team will be back,” said Ting, who is also Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.

Ting said GPS wanted all its 31 candidates to be given the mandate to represent Sarawak in the federal government.

He also hoped that all 25 thrusts in GPS’ manifesto will help Sarawak become a highincome state by 2030.

“This is our way forward. I thus appeal to Mirians to give an opportunity to Phang to be their MP. Vote for him so that he can go into parliament to represent Sarawak and Miri,” he said.
