10 water supply projects in Samarahan to be ready by 2023

-

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 10 People’s Water Supply Projects worth around RM432 million from Kota Samarahan to Sebuyau and Simunjan will be completed by 2023.

Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak in a statement said this is the result of the state government’s concern and commitment to improving the infrastructure and water supply system in Samarahan division.

“Samarahan is one of the divisions in Sarawak that will witness a major change in the solution to the clean and treated water supply crisis that the residents would benefit,” it said.

These projects, which are the initiative of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication with JBALB Sarawak as the implementing agency, will have a high impact on more than 85,000 residents in the areas of Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau and Simunjan, it added.

A new Batang Samarahan (Water) Booster Pump Station project under Package 1D was completed in March 2022 costing around RM23.2 million.

“All this is part of the implementation of various series of water supply projects in Samarahan division. This high-impact project will further improve and strengthen the existing water supply system.

“The station is responsible for pumping water across the Batang Samarahan Bridge and then channelling water more effectively and consistently to the areas of Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Sebuyau and Simunjan.

“This project is also one of the main components of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System,” JBALB Sarawak said.

The scope of the Batang Samarahan Booster Pump Station project involves the construction of a booster pump station with a capacity of 46 million litres per day, the construction of a water storage tank with a capacity of 7.5 million litres, the implementation of an electro chlorination system and related works.

In order to guarantee a more sustainable quality of water supply in Samarahan division, the department said it will ensure that the projects currently in the implementation stage will be completed within the set time frame.

These projects, according to the department, will form part of the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System inspired by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to solve water supply issues effectively and comprehensively. The Batang Samarahan Booster Pump Station was launched by Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who attended the event on behalf of Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

Also present were Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang, JBALB Sarawak director Chang Kuet Shian and Kota Samarahan incumbent Datuk Rubiah Wang.
