Do not repeat Selangau’s mistakes, Tamin rep cautions
LAWAS: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira has warned Lawas voters to avoid the losses suffered by Selangau folks, and also called upon them to not vote for its former MP Baru Bian, who has moved to contest Lawas this 15th general election (GE15).
He claimed that the Selangau electorate felt ‘cheated and short-changed’ a er Baru failed to serve them according to their expectations.
“There is much to lose and li le to gain for Lawas voters if they were to elect the Selangau incumbent who ‘ran away’ to contest in Lawas a er failing to fully serve his constituents in the last term.
“So, here I am in Lawas to ‘tagih’ (demand) for all the promises not kept in Selangau, his constituency, which he did not return to visit even once a er the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government collapsed,” Gira told the crowd at the campaign for Datuk Henry Sum Agong in Kampung Gaya, teh Gabungan Pati Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Lawas.
Gira also claimed that Baru, who was the works minister during PH’s tenure as federal government, did not look a er village infrastructures such as roads in Selangau, and had told them he only looked a er federal roads and not the village road projects that they requested.
Gira added that he was forced to bear the burden singlehandedly to serve voters as Tamin assemblyman when Baru did not step in to look into their needs.
Gira said the GPS would end up in the federal government again a er GE15 and the opposition would not be able to deliver the goods to constituents or allow them to benefit from minor rural project, rural transformation programme and other benefits.
“It is about RM9 million per year, or nearly RM45 million over five years, of grants lost if you vote for the opposition,” said Gira.
