Soldier found dead in jungle near Samarindah in Kota Samarahan

KUCHING: A 30-year-old soldier was found dead in a jungle area near Samarindah in Kota Samarahan around noon yesterday.

A family member came across the body and called the police as well as medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for assistance.

According to a witness, it took about an hour for the authoritie­s to locate the body in the jungle.

The body was later handed over to the police for transporta­tion to SGH’s Forensics Department for a post-mortem.

It is understood that the soldier had served in the army for 15 years.

He left behind his wife and three children.

According to the wife, her husband had on the night of Nov 14 left her details of the location of his whereabout­s in the jungle.

Based on that informatio­n, a search was conducted after they failed to contact him.
