KAPIT: A landslide early yesterday at Jalan Bukit Goram here has cut off road access to Kapit town for hundreds of residents at Rumah Bandong and Rumah Osman.

Kapit District Disaster Management Commi ee chairman Cerisologo Sabut said he was notified of the incident by a resident of Rumah Bandong around 4.30am.

“The landslide occurred not far from the Jalan Bukit GoramJalan Antaroh junction, and has rendered the road impassable,” he said.

Excessive rainfall over the past few days is believed to have triggered the landslide, he added.

He also said works to clear the road were ongoing yesterday.

The impassable road resulted in some 50 students from the two longhouses, who are studying at SK Kapit and SK Kapit 2, having to miss classes yesterday, while farmers were unable to travel to town to sell their produce.
