The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday sentenced a 39-year-old man to eight months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to retaining a stolen motorcycle belonging to a farmer.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence against Jonathan Fu Won Yen under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to five years or a fine, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, the owner of the motorcycle lodged a police report after discovering his machine missing near a mart along Jalan Setia Raja at around 6pm on May 11 this year.

Acting on the report, police arrested Fu on Aug 14 at a workshop at Jalan Setia Raja and recovered a motorcycle, whose chassis and engine numbers matched that of the motorcycle reported stolen by the owner.

During the investigation, Fu was unable to produce any receipt to prove that he had purchased the motorcycle from someone else. Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while Fu was unrepresented.
