Awg Tengah: 3,500 Limbang folks to benefit from pipeline extension project
LIMBANG: Some 3,500 residents will be able to enjoy clean, treated water when the new water-pipeline extension project from Bawang Ubor-Pangkalan Jawa junction to Rumah Jubang junction is completed.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the project costing RM63 million is set to commence in the first quarter next year and will be installed from the Berawan treatment plant spreading out to 18 villages and two schools.
“The project’s reticulation system will be implemented by the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) in the first quarter next year and is expected to be completed by 2025,” he said in a speech during the project’s launch here yesterday.
Awang Tengah, who is Natural Resources and Urban Development Second Minister, said several villages in Medamit will also be connected to the Berawan treatment plant for a similar project under NRDA in Limbang.
“The Northern Region Water Board (Laku) plans to increase the capacity of the Berawan treatment plant,” he explained.
He added that the state government has allocated RM4 billion for water supply in Sarawak under the ‘Projek Rakyat’ and another RM2.4 billion for electricity supply in rural areas which includes Limbang and Lawas.
He stressed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has implemented a comprehensive development policy.
“It is part of our development policy for Limbang and Lawas to be further developed. We are focusing our energy and efforts on bringing development to the people in the interior areas,” he added.
Also present were Limbang incumbent Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni, Limbang Resident Sebi Abang and Limbang district officer Superi Awang Said.
