Tiong blasts Chiew for false allegations

-

BINTULU: Bintulu incumbent Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing condemns the action of DAP veteran Chiew Chin Sing in spreading rumours that Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) was making he y profits at a time when all parties were struggling with the post-Covid19 pandemic and economic meltdown.

He said Chiew appeared to be trying to be a hero by spreading unfavourable rumours about foreign investment.

He said recently Chiew, who is DAP Sarawak treasurer, unfairly criticised PKFZ at various events to gain votes and support for his son Tony Chiew Chan Yew.

“Chiew Chin Sing only knows how to beli le the PKFZ, but does not at all touch on the economic profits of the PKFZ including the operation of the free trade zone since 2005 which successfully a racted investment of RM7 billion, domestic and foreign investment, commercial land with 100 per cent occupancy rate, light industry and others,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Tiong pointed out that several financial news reports had repeatedly mentioned that PKFZ had contributed high returns to the port’s economic growth.

He said Chiew’s baseless allegations might have scared foreign investors who had planned to invest in the country.

“This indirectly becomes a stumbling block and will slow down the country’s economic recovery and it also proves that DAP is trying to destroy the country’s economy and push the people into poverty,” said Tiong.

He said Chiew, who is a veteran DAP leader, is not se ing a good example for the younger generation.

“DAP leaders play various issues just to get the people’s support and I hope he will be more careful a er this before issuing a statement,” he said.

Tiong said if Chiew continues making false claims, he will need to be ready to face any consequences in the future, including legal action.

The five-term Bintulu incumbent said he was already used to Chiew’s irresponsible tricks to incite the people.

“I don’t need to show him evidence because when he was an assemblyman for Tanjong Batu since 2001, what has he done for Bintulu, what political achievements can be shared with the people?

“Is the drainage system in the district being upgraded to deal with flooding issues, surely he himself had time to see the development of the drainage system,” Tiong said.

Tiong said if Chiew wanted to a ack him regarding some issues such as the river plan, it would be be er if he took the initiative to actively communicate with the Bintulu Development Authority and the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation to get the update and follow up on what had been done.
