Man jailed 12 months and fined RM4,000 for criminal intimidati­on

KUCHING: A man, 31, was sentenced to a total of 12 months in jail and fined RM4,000 by a magistrate­s’ court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidati­on against his parents and breaking a television belonging to his father.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentences against Frizal Morshidi from Kampung Gita Lama, Matang.

Syarifah sentenced Frizal to 12 months’ jail each for his first and second offence which are to run concurrent­ly and RM4,000 fine for the third charge.

She ordered Frizal’s jail sentence to take effect from yesterday (Nov 17).

For the first and second offence, Frizal was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for up to seven years’ jail or with fine, or both upon conviction.

For the third, he was charged under Section Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

According to the first and second charges, Frizal threatened to kill his father, 57, and mother, 54, at the house.

The third charge, Frizal was charged with mischief, damaging a television set belonging to his father. The three charges were committed at their house in Kampung Gita Lama in Matang around 11am on Nov 15.

Based on the facts of case, Frizal’s mother who was in the kitchen at the time, saw him walking to the kitchen and sat at the kitchen door facing towards a river, while yelling that he would stab his father.

His father, who was catching fish at the river then saw Frizal walking towards him, yelling that he would stab him again while wielding a knife.

He also threatened to kill his mother when she tried to stop him from harming his father.

His mother screamed for help while Frizal entered the house through the kitchen door, placing the knife in the kitchen. His mother then hid the knife to prevent him from hurting anyone.

Frizal then went to the living room and proceeded to kick the television which had caused a loss of RM1,500.

A police report was lodged and Frizal was arrested on the same day.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while Frizal was unrepresen­ted by a counsel.
