KJM groups urged to unite, hold grand event next year

-

KUCHING: All neighbourhood community groups involved in the Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) programme within the jurisdiction of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) have been called upon to unite and organise a grand event next year.

In making the call, Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is in charge of DBKU, said there is a need for the groups to organise such an event as next year is Sarawak’s 60th anniversary of being part of Malaysia.

“Next year, the state government is planning some events and I hope the communities within the KJM programme for DBKU area will unite to come up with an event which can contribute to DBKU’s aim in organising more events next year,” he said.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the KJM Empowerment Workshop at a hotel here Wednesday.

Dr Abdul Rahman suggested to the groups to come up with events that will involve the participation of other groups within the KJM programme across the state.

He added that DBKU could perhaps organise a huge event in which the united group acts as the event’s manager on behalf of DBKU.

“We need these groups to play a crucial role in our bid to organise more events in DBKU area; be it an international or local event.”

Also present at the event which was hosted by DBKU was Datuk Bandar Datu Junaidi Reduan.

The objective of the three-day workshop which began Nov 14 was to bring all the neighbourhood community groups under DBKU’s administration together with the aim of discussing KJM’s direction for 2023.

The workshop also aimed to empower the neighbourhood groups within KJM which are responsible for developing their respective communities.
