Organiser vows to revive hosting of major golf tournaments in Sibu
SIBU: Ta Ann group chief executive officer and managing director Dato Wong Kuo Hea has pledged to popularise golf as a healthy sport here through the hosting of more tournaments.
Moreover, he vows to bring back the Ta Ann Classic, which had attracted many top golfers with handicap of 12 and below, in the past.
“The Ta Ann Classic had attracted top golfers from Sarawak, Sabah and even abroad in the past.
“I have strong sentimental attachment with the Ta Ann Classic, and I certainly want to organise it again in the near future,” he said at the prize presentation ceremony for the Ta Ann Golf Special 2022 tournament at Sibu Golf Club last weekend.
Moreover, Kuo Hea pledged to do his part in further promoting golf in this division.
“We have a very nice, but still challenging, 18-hole golf course here,” he added.
Kuo Hea also recalled about the company having hosted Ta Ann Classic and Ta Ann Invitational tournaments in the past.
“Unfortunately, they had to be discontinued due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Still, I will work together with Sibu Golf Club to restart the organising of golf tournaments, and I promise you that this Ta Ann Golf Special would become an annual affair,” he assured those attending the event, who comprised the players, and the representatives of the sponsors.
For the Ta Ann Golf Special 2022, Ferdinand Siaw fired a 64 to lift the Nett title, with Ling Soon Kiong scoring a 66 to place second, and Kee Ing Ping managing a 66 (on countback) to grab third place.
In the Gross section, state ace Lee Ka Tung came out tops, with Ronnie Tang and Abdul Latif becoming runners-up.
Seasoned golfer Wong Lay Nam clinched the Senior title, edging Andy Hii and Ting Heng Chiu at respective second and third place.
In the Junior section, Samson Kung was named the champion, with Joel Lee and Marcus Law finishing second and third, respectively.
About 100 golfers took part in the tournament, including Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi and Ta Ann Holdings chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi.
The Ta Ann Group also donated RM30,000 to Sibu Golf Club.
