75 Buddhist, Taoist bodies receive Unifor grants

KUCHING: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian handed over Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) special Covid-19 sundry grants to 75 Buddhist and Taoist bodies at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Auditorium yesterday.

Each received RM12,800 grants for their day-to-day operationa­l costs incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Sim, who is Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said the grants through Unifor are part of the government’s efforts to look after the interest of all Sarawakian­s irrespecti­ve of race and religion.

“We all should be grateful that only the Sarawak government gives and shows respect by giving grants to all religious bodies,” he said in a statement.

Among those present were Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, Temenggong Tan Joo Phoi, a political secretary to the premier Tan Kai, and Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Division Chinese Associatio­n president Dato Richard Wee.
