-

KUCHING: Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) has allocated about RM33,000 this year to help children who are newly diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers to adjust to life at the ward.

“It takes resilience and a strong support system for a family to cope with the challenges and the life adjustments that come after the diagnosis.

“This is a one-off token of love with a care-pack worth up to RM400 for about 90 new cancer patients,” it said in a Facebook post.

The Society said that while the pack includes essential items such as toiletries, towels, a thermometer, eating utensils and a thermal flask; the one-off token will help caregivers to pay for food or other expenses at the ward.

“Among other support and services rendered for new patients, the financial support helps to cover lab tests, consumables and Covid-19 related expenses, as well as monthly financial allowance, accommodation, and transportation when necessary,” it added.

SCCS adopts a holistic approach in providing care and relief to about 200 children and their family battle childhood cancer every year.

Its support and care begins upon diagnosis through remission, relapse, bereavement and survivorship.
