KUCHING: Hong Kong players stamped their domination at the 15th ATF 14&Under Series tennis tournament when they bagged three out of the four titles at stake at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Tennis Centre yesterday.

In the girls singles, Jane Sze defeated Ngo Chung Thien Lam of Vietnam in straight sets of 6-1, 6-2 in the final that lasted for one hour.

It was Jane’s second title win after she partnered Chloe Wong to beat Ngo Chung Thien Lam and Nutthida Tanwattanakul 6-2, 6-2 in the girls doubles final on Thursday.

“Before the tournament, l did not think too much and I was just aiming to get some competition experience and I was surprised that l won both the singles and doubles titles, which is the best result so far for me.

“This is also the first time I have played outside Hong Kong and my second time in Malaysian.

“I had only played in Hong Kong these two years because l was unable to go overseas due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” Jane said.

Chloe Wong of Hong Kong finished third after receiving a walkover from India’s Honey Jumani Gurav in the playoff match.

Hong King’s third title was delivered by Brandon Wong and Donovan Yim who outplayed Ethan Chan and Phay Kai Chuen of Singapore 6-2, 6-4 in the boys doubles final played on Court 8.

Meanwhile, the boys singles final will be an all-Singapore affair after fifth seeded Luke Ho sprung another upset where he defeated third seed Amarr Shanmugarthy of Malaysia 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals while Phay Kai Chuen sent second seeded Zachary Sng also of Singapore packing 6-1, 6-1 in the other semifinal.
