GPS’ Edwin wrests Selangau from PH
SELANGAU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) managed to wrest Selangau from Pakatan Harapan (PH) through Edwin Banta as predicted.
Edwin delivered the seat with a 4,986-vote majority by polling 16,078 votes against PH candidate Umpang Sabang and independent candidate Henry Joseph.
Umpang polled 11,092 votes while Henry garnered 1,626 votes.
Returning Officer Inting Nyami announced the official results at 11.55pm at the votes tallying centre at Selangau multipurpose hall.
Inting said 28,796 votes were cast with a voter turnout of 64.01 per cent. There were 428 spoilt votes.
Selangau was held by PH after Baru Bian won the seat in the 14th general election on a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket.
Now the secretary general of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), he decided not to defend the seat and contested in Lawas in this election instead.
