Bekenu voters fulfilling their responsibilities despite rain

-

BEKENU: The rainy weather did not discourage Sibuti voters from exercising their rights to cast their votes in the 15th general election (GE15) yesterday.

Voters started flocking to their respective polling centres as soon as they were open at 7.30am, despite the drizzle.

According to Election Commission (EC) statistics, the constituency has a total of 58,522 registered voters.

Out of the total number, Lambir state constituency has the most with 38,535 registered voters while the remaining 19,987 are in Bekenu state constituency.

At SJK(C) Chung Hua Sibuti, the voting process went smoothly where the election workers had prepared two wheelchairs for voters with mobility problems.

Yahya Jahawi, 36 from Kampung Dagang here was very excited to exercise his right as a first-time voter.

“I came early around 6.30am as this is my first time participating as a voter,” he said.

As a disabled person, he was indeed very satisfied because the EC workers helped him throughout the voting process.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lukanisman Awang Sauni arrived at SJK(C) Chung Hua Sibuti at 8.32am to cast his vote. After fulfilling his responsibility, Lukanisman spent some time observing the voting process there.

A total of 41 polling centres were set up in Sibuti for GE15.
