Miri OCPD warns against police impersonat­ors, says no ‘Steven Cheng’ in IPD Miri

LIMBANG: There is no Chinese police officer or personnel named Steven Cheng serving in Miri police headquarte­rs (IPD), Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu has confirmed.

He said this following a recent viralled post on Facebook where an individual named ‘Steven Cheng’ had allegedly impersonat­ed a policeman and harassed another individual named Merbert Mino.

“Following the statement which has gone viral on Facebook, we confirm that there is no Chinese police officer or personnel named Steven Cheng serving in IPD Miri.

“So far the police have not received a police report on this case and I can only give a statement or confirm that there is no policeman named Steven Cheng at IPD Miri,” said Alexson in a statement yesterday.

Adding on, he warned that strict action will be taken against those who are found impersonat­ing the police and will be charged under Section 107 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year imprisonme­nt or a fine or both.

Police also advised the public not to be deceived by irresponsi­ble individual­s impersonat­ing the police and if in doubt, they can contact Miri IPD Operations Room on 085433730 for verificati­on.
