Miri OCPD warns against police impersonators, says no ‘Steven Cheng’ in IPD Miri
LIMBANG: There is no Chinese police officer or personnel named Steven Cheng serving in Miri police headquarters (IPD), Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu has confirmed.
He said this following a recent viralled post on Facebook where an individual named ‘Steven Cheng’ had allegedly impersonated a policeman and harassed another individual named Merbert Mino.
“Following the statement which has gone viral on Facebook, we confirm that there is no Chinese police officer or personnel named Steven Cheng serving in IPD Miri.
“So far the police have not received a police report on this case and I can only give a statement or confirm that there is no policeman named Steven Cheng at IPD Miri,” said Alexson in a statement yesterday.
Adding on, he warned that strict action will be taken against those who are found impersonating the police and will be charged under Section 107 of the Penal Code which carries a two-year imprisonment or a fine or both.
Police also advised the public not to be deceived by irresponsible individuals impersonating the police and if in doubt, they can contact Miri IPD Operations Room on 085433730 for verification.
