DAP’s Chiew: GE15 defeat only makes me stronger

-

BINTULU: Defeated Democratic Action Party (DAP) Bintulu candidate Chiew Chan Yew said his loss in the just-concluded general election would make him stronger.

“I acknowledge and accept this defeat, and I promise to continue serving the people in Bintulu. I will do my best to uphold the rights and interests of the people, serving the people with humility.

“I will continue to monitor the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government, making sure they keep their promises,” he wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.

He was grateful and thanked all 21,287 voters who cast their ballots for him.

“Even if we didn’t win, your support and encouragement will be a motivation for me to keep moving forward,” said Chiew.

According to him, the GE15 campaign had been like a big war for his team as they faced “strong pressure, oppression and siege” from all directions.

“I want to thank my Bintulu comrades and the rest of the country who have been with me throughout this election.

“I thank the party for the trust given. After sitting with these emotions for a few days, I will continue to protect and look after the interests of the people.”

Chiew lost in a three-cornered fight against GPS’ Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who polled 43,455 votes, while Duke Janteng of Perikatan Nasional received 5,650 votes.
