PSB Miri candidate humbly accepts defeat

-

MIRI: Defeated Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Miri candidate Datuk Lawrence Lai said he fully accepts the decision of Miri voters in the 15th General Election (GE15).

“I fully respect and humbly accept the decision of Miri voters in GE15.

“Personally, I do not regret contesting in this election, but I am disappointed that I have lost the chance to table a private member’s bill of ‘Referendum Act’ in the Parliament to restore Sarawak’s resources, rights and sovereignty,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lai only managed to garner 5,209 votes and lost his deposit.

Pakatan Harapan candidate Chiew Choon Man emerged triumphant with a majority of 6,159 votes against his closest challenger from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Jeffery Phang.

Lai expressed his gratitude to those who voted for him as well as those who had assisted him one way or another, throughout the campaigning period.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to those who have voted for me, as well as my election campaign team, especially from PBK (Parti Bumi Kenyalang), PBDS (Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak), S4S (Sarawak for Sarawakians) and my PSB comrades and all the volunteers who have assisted me throughout this election campaign,” he said.
