GPS-SUPP’s Phang respects GE15 outcome, thanks supporters
MIRI: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Miri candidate Jeffrey Phang Siaw Foong thanked voters for their support amidst defeat by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Chiew Choon Man in the recent 15tt General Election (GE15).
Phang garnered 33,390 votes against Chiew’s 39,549 votes, where the latter won with a majority of 6,159 votes.
Speaking to reporters, Phang said he respected the decision of all voters and expressed hope that the PH representative Chiew Choon Man can do something better for Miri in the next five years.
Phang also took the opportunity to thank all three state assemblymen – Piasau’s Datuk Sebastian Ting, Pujut’s Mayor Adam Yii and Senadin’s Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin for their coaching and assistance during the campaign period as well as his team members who had been working really hard on the ground.
“The past two weeks of campaign period weren’t easy but everyone has worked hard. I would also like to thank my family, my wife and children for their support,” he said.
In comparison to the 2018 general election, Dr Michael Teo of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) won the seat against Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Datuk Sebastian Ting with a majority of 13,663 votes, and with this GE15’s declining number of majority votes, this indicates that GPS-SUPP has won considerable support from Mirians, he said.
“I believe we have done our best to win back some support from Mirians amidst the defeat, and this has given me some sort of consolation and I wish to extend my appreciation to those who have supported me,” said Phang who had been walking around Miri town yesterday, thanking the locals for their support and coming out to vote.
