Re-elected Sibu MP must bring in more devt — Ting

-

SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Sibu parliamentary seat Clarence Ting has accepted his defeat in the 15th general election (GE15) but with a heavy heart as he believes that Sibu still needs more infrastructure and development plans.

“We have been talking about the need for development in Sibu and to press for funding from the Parliament and I hope the re-elected MP (Oscar Ling) will develop and bring Sibu forward,” said Ting during his thankyou walkabout at Sibu Central Market here yesterday.

Ting disclosed that he had met up with Ling after the GE15 result announcement to advise him on the need to look into the infrastructures in Sibu such as improving the stretch of federal road Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (airport road) all the way to Jalan Deshon, as well as to implement the promises made in his election manifesto.

As for the much-needed improvement works on the airport road, Ting on his capacity as the chairman of Sibu

Municipal Council (SMC), said he would continue to fight for infrastructure development and hoped that the MP would also support and continue to push for its implementation.

This, he added, would be for the benefit of the people and pledged that he would continue to serve the people as SMC chairman.

On a related matter, Ting said SMC would work closely with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to ensure Sibu folks would have access to 5G network service.

During a recent press conference here, DNB general manager for Sabah and Sarawak Choo Meng Chung had indicated that the riverine town would be among the areas that would be equipped with access to 5G network service, to which DNB was committed to investing RM1 billion for Internet connectivity in 10 years’ time.

Ting was also accompanied by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee during the walkabout.
