-

SIBU: Sibu MP Oscar Ling aims to deliver his election promises should Pakatan Harapan (PH) succeed in forming the next federal government.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday night after the official announcement of his victory, he said his plans would include the building of a heart and cancer centre for Sibu.

“If we (PH) could form the next federal government, we would fulfil our manifesto,” he said, while thanking the people for re-electing him as Sibu MP for a third term.

“I thought the result would be very close but luckily, I managed to grab more (votes) – this is people’s power. They want Pakatan Harapan to lead the country.”

Meanwhile, defeated Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Clarence Ting said the people of Sibu had sent a message through their votes.

“I accepted the result, I heard the Sibu people; it’s unfortunate that I did not win but I conceded to our winner.

“I congratulate him and I hope that from now on, our MP will help to fight for Sibu. This is very important because I am still SMC (Sibu Municipal Council ) chairman and I hope that Sibu will become better,” said Ting.

Ling polled 31,287 votes against Ting’s 23,527 for a majority of 7,760 votes. The third candidate, Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, garnered 11,128 votes.

Voter turnout was 63.67 per cent.
