Cultural, arts fest at Naim Street Mall in Bintulu this weekend
The Naim Street Mall at Bintulu Paragon will hold its inaugural Community Cultural and Arts Festival 2022 (#CCAF 2022) from Nov 25 to 27 to propel the local arts and culture scene in Sarawak up to the next level.
Carrying the theme ‘Strengthening a Sense of Community Through Arts and Culture’, the festival will highlight local talents and artists. Creative individuals aged 7 to 17 years are encouraged to participate in the drawing competition, running from Nov 23 to 24.
The #CCAF 2022 is supported by Bintulu Development Authority, Persatuan Penggerak Pelancongan Bintulu, Persatuan Usahawan Kraf Sarawak, Bintulu District Education Office and Kelab Guru Seri Bintulu.
Naim Holdings Berhad Bintulu deputy chief operating officer (technical) cum regional general manager Thomas Wong, in a statement, said the world came to realise the importance of home and strong community ties during the Covid-19 lockdown and containment measures, in force over the last three years.
“With the progressive easing of restrictions and opening of communities, we would like to provide opportunities for artists and the public to come together to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritage. We have invited renowned local artists to set up booths at the #CCAF 2022. They are encouraged to take part in the various activities such as the art exhibitions, live music performances and many more.
“Through #CCAF, we want to activate and develop the arts scene in Malaysia as it is a vivid reflection of our natural heritage,” said Wong.
A platform to deliver inclusive art experiences to Malaysians, the first-ever #CCAF will feature artworks and crafts by renowned local artists, including batik paintings by Noel Belulok, and wall batik painting by Abdul Malik Adenan.
There will also be special performances by Florence Lo and Melissa Francis, who are successful Sarawak singers.
Local artists are also invited to set up exhibition booths and conduct ‘live’ demonstrations to engage with the community at the ground floor of Naim Street Mall.
The whole floor will be turned into an engaging venue for visitors to appreciate arts, beyond the confines of a traditional arts fair.
While it honours Malaysian artists, this festival is a platform for Malaysians to gain a better understanding of their cultural heritage and strengthen their sense of community.
The event runs from 9am to 10pm daily, from Nov 25 to 27, and admission is free. There will also be home-made food and beverages for sale, as well as health and beauty activities, and a blood donation drive.
