Certificates supply problem solved, backlog of marriage registrations to be cleared — MCCCI

-

The issue of marriage certificate paper shortage has been resolved, the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has informed.

According to the section secretariat, the replenishment of the papers allows the chamber to clear the backlog of registrations of marriages.

“Previously, the shortage had forced the MCCCI to limit the handling of applications by many couples wishing to have their marriages registered.

“Now, the supply of the certificate papers has resumed and we have been given greenlight to accommodate the backlogged requests,” said the secretariat in a statement yesterday.

It is stated that Miri would, on average, issue about 200 marriage certificates every month, with the issuance covering those applied via MCCCI, the National Registration Department (JPN), churches, and other relevant agencies and organisations.

“During the period of shortage, the number was far lower than that.

“Now that the supply has resumed, we’re more than happy to clear all the applications,” said the secretariat.

Yesterday, 11 couples registered their marriages during a simple ceremony held at MCCCI chamber room. The date ‘22/11/22’ was regarded by many to be ‘an auspicious day to get married’.

In addition, the MCCCI secretariat also reminded those wishing to have their marriages registered on specific dates such as on Dec 12, to book early.
