PKR to hold post-mortem over GE15 performance in Sarawak

-

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) would conduct a post-mortem over the party’s performance in Sarawak in the just-concluded 15th general election (GE15).

PKR Sarawak chairman Roland Engan said such assessment is necessary for the team to identify its weaknesses, particularly those contributing to its loss in Baram, as well as to plan and decide the way forward for the party.

“We need to reflect and carry out this post-mortem to discuss the factors that contributed to our loss, and then, focus on the way forward,” he said in a statement yesterday.

In GE15, Roland contested the Baram seat in a straight fight against the incumbent Datuk Anyi Ngau of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

The latter retained the seat after polling 18,339 votes over Roland’s 11,060.

“The low turnout could be one of the reasons why we lost. This year, the turnout was only 50.76 per cent, whereas in the GE of 2018, it was 63.9 per cent,” said Roland.

However, the PKR man also pointed out that despite losing, the number of votes for the party in Baram this time was more than the 10,181 votes that he attained in 2018.
