Flooding: Situation in Marudi improves, reports Bomba

The situation in Marudi has improved with the water level in Baram River registerin­g a downward trend, said acting Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee.

He said checks were carried out yesterday by personnel from Marudi station over floodprone areas including Kampung Dagang, Kampung Baru, Kampung Narum and Marudi town itself, including the Ridan ferry point.

“Several houses at lowlying areas remain inundated. However, the main road leading to Ridan Ferry Point is in good condition.

“The water level in Baram River has receded four-to-five inches and the flood situation is still under control,” he said, adding that the weather yesterday was fair.

He also said with the floods having receded, those affected had begun the process of cleaning up their houses.

“We have advised them to remain vigilant and to continue paying a ention to the water level around them,” said Ahmad Nizam.
