Pesta Rakyat Durin returns after three-year hiatus

Pesta Rakyat Durin is back a er a three-year hiatus, set to be taking place at Durin Bazaar from Nov 25 to 27.

According to organising chairman Councillor Teo Boon Siew of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), the threeday event would host many programmes and activities for the people of Durin and those from the nearby areas.

“There will be a fun fair, and food stalls have already been up since Nov 20. We have 38 booths for rentals, 17 of them designated as free-of-charge for Durin folks to carry out their business,” he said, also describing the festival as helping the local people to earn some income.

Other activities will include remote control (RC) races, ‘pocopoco’ dancing, karaoke contest, a ‘kebaya’ beauty pageant, catching ducks and chickens competitio­ns, darts challenge, street basketball and children’s colouring contest.

Dudong assemblyma­n Dato Sri Tiong King Sing is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony on Nov 26, while Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government I Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil is expected to officiate at the closing ceremony on Nov 27.
