Orchestra group to stage Christmas mini-concert

-

The Miri Orchestra and Choir (MOC) will stage a Christmas mini-concert this Dec 17 at Gymkhana Club Miri, with curtain-raising at 7.30pm.

The choir will be featuring a medley of Christmas songs, with a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Malay folk songs thrown in to highlight the ‘unity amidst diversity’ spirit of the Miri community.

Orchestrated by James Lau, the show will have Jonathan Wong as the choir lead and Wesley Lau as the band lead.

Founded in 1998 by Siwen Fong, the MOC is a non-profit volunteer-oriented organisation under the patronage of former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, Dr Loh Yunn Hua and Dr Abdul Aziz Abdullah.

According to MOC president Nicholas Chin, the orchestrachoir group has been providing a healthy and constructive alternative for vocal and musical talents to meet and learn from one another, as well as to appreciate and practise their craft.

“MOC also serves as a platform to unearth and develop raw musical talents. We hope that more people would come and join us,” he said, adding that there is no age limit when it comes to music ‘as long as the passion and commitment are there’.

It is noteworthy to highlight that the MOC has raised funds for charitable organisations like Palliative Home Programme, Miri Sunflower Centre, Miri Home for the Aged, as well as a number of government-aided primary schools here.

Admission to the Christmas mini-concert is RM20 per person.
