Simu Liu defends Marvel after Tarantino, Scorsese criticism

-

Actor Simu Liu has spoken out against Hollywood directors Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese.

The Shang-Chi star took to social media to address the numerous criticisms by the two filmmakers upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe

(MCU) franchise.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the actor stood by Marvel’s decision to feature a diverse cast and choose fresh faces to lead its franchises.

“I’m proud to work with one that has made sustained efforts to improve diversity onscreen by creating heroes that empower and inspire people of all communities everywhere,” Liu said.

“I loved the ‘Golden Age’ too.. but it was white as hell.”

He added that although he had respect for Tarantino and Scorsese, they “don’t get to point their nose at me or anyone.”

This comes as a response to a statement from Tarantino turning down the possibility of him ever directing a MCU film. The Pulp Fiction director explained during an interview on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast that “Marvel-isation of Hollywood has ruined cinema”.

“You have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters,” Tarantino said.

the star.”

Scorsese has also made numerous comments in interviews in 2019 that Marvel films are “not cinema but amusement park rides”.

“It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being,” Scorsese said in an interview with Empire. — Malay Mail
