Speed up new Daro health clinic project, urges rep
DARO folks are still waiting to have a new health clinic to replace the one that was razed in a fire in 2015.
Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) said the walling works for the new clinic were completed over two years ago but the structure had collapsed and become an eyesore, as if abandoned.
Thus, Safiee hoped the project could be speeded up.
“It has been seven years since the temporary Daro clinic has been operating and all this while there were all forms of shortcomings and the place is not convenient,” he said when debating the Supply Bill 2023.
He said that the project should have been given priority as it replaces the burnt down building.
Safiee also pointed to the Daro dental clinic that has become a ‘sick’ project, which meant that the folks had to rely on Mukah and Dalat district clinic which is available only once a month.
“I appeal for the appointment of a rescue contractor to expedite the project for the benefit of the people.”
At the same time, he also wants the construction of the 17.6km Jalan Passin-Matu project, and 24km Jalan Bawang Assan/Tanjung Manis/Sungai Ilas/Kampung Sabena (Phase II) project, which were approved in 2018 and scheduled to be competed at the end of this year, to be expedited.
He said both projects had been abandoned with work progress at below 10 per cent, and the contractor had been terminated.
“The failure to complete the projects as planned has disappointed the folks in both areas who wanted their villages to be connected by road. Until today, they are still fully dependent on water transportation which is not only inconvenient but also costly.”
Thus, he urged the state Public Works Department to give serious attention to the projects which had long been abandoned, and be given more priority in appointing a rescue contractor.
These two projects are not merely for connectivity but also a game changer in improving the standard of living of the local community, he said.
