Meluan folks hope for more funds to accelerate devt in their area

-

RESIDENTS of Meluan hope to see more of the state budget channeled to accelerate the development in their area.

Roland Duat Jubin (GPSMeluan) said with the facilities and infrastructure in place, residents would be able to tap into the rich resources, and business will flourish and the people will be able to generate more income.

“The rakyat in Meluan are growing impatient and want relevant authorities to properly install the telecommunication tower there so that it can be in operation and connect the folks to the digital world,” he said when debating the Supply (2023) Bill.

He noted that the Julau market has been connected with fibre optic high-speed internet, and hopes that the connectivity can be extended further to reach Nanga Entabai by 2023.

At the same time, he hoped for better road connectivity to pepper farms and oil palm smallholdings, and requested for farm road projects to be extended to Meluan.

“The Sarawak Land Development Board has carried out farm road projects and they deliver it efficiently. Unfortunately, I was told that the fund available is very limited, and they would like to propose more funds to be given to them.

“In Meluan, I hope at least RM5 million can be allocated annually for this purpose.”

Meanwhile, he said that the prices of commodities like pepper and oil palm were not encouraging though the farm inputs had increased tremendously.

He hoped that the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development will address this issue.
