Malaysia will progress further under Anwar, says ex-PKR man
Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader in the central zone, George Chen, says he is confident that Malaysia will be able to progress in tandem with other developing countries under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister.
He also hoped that under Anwar’s leadership, politics in Malaysia would be more tolerant towards a multiracial Malaysian society.
He believed that if Malaysians put aside all their differences, whether in politics, religion or culture, the nation would do very well.
“Thanks to all the people for accepting the message for reform so that we can lead our society in harmony, peace and progress,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He attributed this change as a huge success for all Malaysians for without it there would not be any change of government.
He said now that a unity government has been formed, it is important that Malaysians put aside all their differences and move forward.
Chen, who contested in Kanowit as an independent in the just-concluded general election, said that as soon as he heard news of Anwar’s appointment, he sent a congratulatory message to the new prime minister and his family.
“After more than 20 years of struggle with ‘reformasi’, and as a member of ‘reformasi’, I am greatly touched by his appointment. I congratulate him for his sacrifices and contributions in changing the political landscapes of Malaysia,” he said.
He said although he had left PKR, he and Anwar were still on good terms and in constant communication.
He added that although he stood as an independent in the general election, his heart was still with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Throughout the campaigning period, he had said that if he won the election, he would go back to PH.
