‘Keep customers in mind when deciding to raise prices’

KAPIT: Eatery owners must see to it any increase in the price of food and drinks do not burden their customers, said Sarawak Federation of Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Associatio­ns (SFCROA) chairman Hii Fong Lung.

In giving the reminder, he said while price increases are inevitable due to the current economic situation, any upward revision must be addressed in a holistic manner.

“We are faced with a situation where we have no choice but to increase the charges for our services, owing to the price hike in raw goods, implementa­tion of the minimum wage, high rental charges and so on.

Nonetheles­s, we must keep our customers in mind and strive towards a win-win situation for all sides,” he said during the federation’s committee meeting here Wednesday.

Unity, he stressed, is key in facing the current economic challenges and called on all SFCROA members to work as a team.

Separately, Hii announced that he would step down as SFCROA chairman when his current term expires in April next year, and called on members to begin identifyin­g his successor.

“This is my sixth year as chairman and the time has come for me to step down. I hope to see a new leader who is dynamic and able to lead the federation to greater heights take over.

“So get ready to elect a new leader to helm the federation,” said Hii, who is also Bintulu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Associatio­n chairman.

He also extended his appreciati­on to Kapit Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Associatio­n chairman Ma Tian Ho for hosting the meeting.
