Perikatan Nasional to play opposition, provide check and balance — Muhyiddin
Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his congratulatory message to the 10th Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has decided to play the Opposition role in the 15th Malaysian Parliament.
“I would like to congratulate YAB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has been appointed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“With the Federal Government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH), PN will play a check and balance role in the Malaysian Parliament by bringing the voice of the people in line with parliamentary democracy principles,” Muhyiddin said through his Facebook post yesterday.
“Moving forward, PN will continue the struggle of the well-being of the people and the prosperity of the country guided by PN principles - Caring, Clean and Stable government,” he said.
On Wednesday (Nov 23), the PN chairman had rejected the proposal of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who ordered that PN and PH form a unity government.
Muhyiddin said that he had made it clear to the Yang diPertuan Agong that PN did not want to engage in any political cooperation with PH as it has always been the coalition’s stance or principle.
The proposal was presented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when Muhyiddin and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were present before His Majesty at Istana Negara, following the fact that no member of the Dewan Rakyat was found to have a simple majority to be appointed as the Prime Minister.
PN secretary general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, meanwhile, in his press statement on Thursday, said PN during a supreme council special meeting had agreed to consider the proposed establishment of a unity government.
He explained that the meeting discussed the proposed formation of a unity government at the federal level.
