Anwar’s appointment brings stability, will strengthen economy, say corporate figures
BINTULU: Two well-known corporate figures have expressed belief that the appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister will bring political stability and strengthen the country’s economy.
“We are optimistic that the creation of the unity government will get Malaysia to be a preferred destination for both local and international investors.
“We anticipate greater transparency and efficiency of governance from the government administration, and a business and people-centric approach to policy making,” said Yek Siew Liong, 62.
On behalf of Bintulu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) he congratulated Anwar on his appointment by the Yang diPertuan Agong.
“I also respectfully wish to thank the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his wisdom on the proposal of creating a unity government in view of the hung parliament which was followed by a special meeting of the Malay Rulers to seek their views on what is best for the people and the country,” said the BCCCI chairman.
He also applauded the decision of all the component parties within the unity government.
“My salute to GPS for being exemplary by accepting DAP’s sincere apology for the greater good of the country,” he said.
He added that this will bring about political stability, while creating a supportive business environment that promotes innovation and issues on progress for Malaysia.
“We are a nation blessed with abundant natural resources in the wonderful sphere of multiracial, multicultural and multi-religious society. May there be unity in diversity to strengthen our confidence in all our undertakings,” said Yek.
Meanwhile, Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce Sarawak (DUBS) vice president Datuk Abdul Kadier Sahib, 74, said it is high time for leaders and people to think and act in unity as Malaysians.
“We respect the Agong’s decision. Members of Parliament need to think calmly, think seriously about how to bring about political stability and how to achieve fair distribution of development especially for the states that are under-developed, and think beyond each political party’s interest for the sake of ‘rakyat’ and Malaysia,” said Abdul Kadier.
He believes that the appointment is an opportunity for Malaysia to show other countries the ‘Malaysia Boleh’ spirit that has enabled the formation of a unity government.
