Farmer fined RM800 for criminal intimidati­on

A farmer, 57, was fined RM800 in default two months jail by a magistrate­s’ court in Belaga yesterday after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidati­on.

The accused, Shon Janen, who was unrepresen­ted before Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry, paid the fine.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum seven years’ jail or a fine or both upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Shon criminally intimidate­d Ugu, 69, at 1.45pm on April 19 at Jalan Jiwa Murni, Sugnai Peguan, Belaga. Based on the facts of the case, Shon with several villagers including a community leader were discussing a land dispute.

During the discussion, Shon said ‘Ini tanah bukit kalau ini bukan tanah milik aki saya (aki Bering) saya mati. Barang siapa dia antara kamu yang memberitah­u tanah ini milik kamu macam inilah kamu mati’ while cutting the head of a live chicken.

This was said because the accused were not satisfied with the discussion.

A police report was lodged and Shon was arrested at 4.15pm on June 13.

DPP Nur Asfa Jannah Mohamad Ariff Irwani prosecuted the case.
